Jeffrey Stallworth
Jeffrey Stallworth is running for Hinds County tax assessor. The incumbent, Mike Barnes, is not seeking reelection. Helen Willaims and Stallworth have both filed as Democrats for the primary election in August and the general election in November.
Some of you who went to Belhaven may remember he spoke to the "Black History Program, Celebrating the Life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr" program at Belhaven College in February 2006. He was invited by the Belhaven Black Student Association which afterward repudiated his speech and apologized to the student body for his radical remarks.
More recently, Stallworth left Anderson United Methodist Church after "he pled guilty to a misdemeanor charge of sexually assaulting a woman in 2001 at her Maryland home. The conviction and sentence were removed in Maryland in 2005...Judge Bobby DeLaughter kept Stallworth's name on Mississippi's sex offender registry."
Matt Friedeman wrote about Stallworth's sex charges and Sid Salter blogged about the sex offender registry issue.
Stallworth is now minister at Word and Woship, which he founded.

Do you mean the speech in 1996? I remember some controversy back then. The woman's basketball coach was pretty upset at him. She was also upset at me, for not bringing the PIT to the girls' games. I (in very non-tactful Rompo fashion) told her we'd start coming when they started dunking. This made her more upset.

yep - she was also the sponsor of the Black Student Association - i remember the PIT did come to the girls' games a few times and Rompo became the only person in my knowledge (albeit limited) to be removed from a Belhaven Lady Blazers basketball game by security, after getting a technical from the PIT
