Where are they now: toy guns edition

Remember playing with toy guns when you were a kid? you could go to any toy store, department store - heck, even gas stations and get a plastic gun that would make noise so you could take out your siblings, COBRA, communists, etc. Now it's nearly impossible to find an inexpensive, cool toy gun for your kids. Even most of the ones on e-bay are "vintage" cap guns. My poor son is forced to use a PVC ball valve with a barb fitting screwed in when he feels the need to end my life. Now how sad is that?

When I was a kid we all had toy guns - six-shooters to take out the cow rustlers, Han Solo blasters to pick off the Storm Troopers, and even BB guns so you could put your eye out (kid!). Yet miraculously neither I nor any of my friends turned out to be serial killers. These days toy guns are not considered politically correct and so of course that means we can't have them. Now I couldn't find a good blaster to keep at my side if my life depended on it. What is my poor son to do?

Ironically, the only decent toy guns you can find in stores today are water guns. Can someone please explain to me why it's ok to have a toy gun that actually shoots something but a pretend laser blaster is verboten?

Anyway, if you can tell me where to find a decent plastic weapon for a decent price I'd certainly appreciate it. My boy has some goblins to kill, and the 3/4" ball valve is jammed.
