Dead. Living Dead. Soul Stealing.
"The Haitian belief is that we have four souls. There's the body-based soul, and that decomposes when you die. There's the star soul, which controls our destiny, and there are two more," Capper said. "You have the big soul, which is the spiritual part of you; it keeps you alive. And then, there's the little soul. It provides your consciousness. It's the psychological center of who you are." The little soul is vulnerable to outside destructive forces. "The traditional belief is that the little soul can detatch from the body," Capper said. "Take our dreams. That's the little soul getting to roam around and go on adventures. "But because it's detachable, it can get lost or captured by a magician," he said. "If you lose your little soul, that's a zombie."

I had a dream last night. I can't remember a lot of it, but here's what I do remember: Harrison and I were college roommates. We were moving out of the dorm at the end of the semester. Harrison was bragging about the new dart board he'd bought and how he was going to have lots of guys over that night at his parents' house for a big contest.
He had a poster affixed to the cinder block wall he had yet to take down. He invited me to show him my dart throwing skills, using the poster as the target. He insisted I use an underhanded throwing technique and the dart he gave me had no needle, just a blunt-headed base. The last thing I remember is seeing a proper dart in his own hand and a smirk on his face.
What does this mean?

However, what they do have is Empire of the Ants. It's my second earliest scifi-related memory, after E.T., and made a much greater impression on me than did E.T., which is basically an Old Yeller-style tale with a really ugly dog. Ants is a scare the crap out of small children-style tale.
*Ants was thoughtfully sponsored by the Environmental Defense Fund for my viewing pleasure.

There was some good news for George Bush. The White House's mid-year budget review forecast that because tax revenues were higher than expected during the spring, the government's spending deficit would be $205 billion this fiscal year, $39 billion less than had been thought. Others, including Congress's number-crunchers, predict the actual deficit will be even less when it is made official in October.
